SIGHTSEEING IN DENMARK
|
|
|
A FEW MUSTS |
Denmark offers a multitude of sights to visit. All the cities of Denmark contain numerous cultural and touristic attractions.
In Copenhagen, you can go for example to Tivoli Gardens, or pay a visit to the Little Mermaid statue in the harbour. The museums of Copenhagen are all worth a visit, namely the National History Museum in the castle of Frederiksborg, the National Fine Arts Museum, or the City Museum ( Bymuseet) where a large model of the city is displayed.
Denmark has archeological witnesses of the Viking age, such as the finds in the city of Hedeby, which was Northern Europe's largest city in the viking age and a major trading centre, the burial mounds of Jelling, the former viking capital city, with their many rune inscribed stones, or again Ladbyskibet burial site with a viking chieftain's boat-grave.
.
Denmark is a paradise for bicycle riders, this is how the country should be toured !
There is no end of Sports opportunities:
Windsurfing, golf, angling... or sunbathing on a sandy beach.
Bathing and swimming are recommended for their tonic effect, either in the streams, lakes or in the sea. However please be careful not to exceed 10 minutes in the water, and only swim where the bottom is not too deep; remember there is always the risk of a sudden muscular cramp.
Sauna is originally a tradition from Finland, and installations can be found everywhere, in hotels, youth hostels, residential buildings, public baths, and private clubs. In the countryside farmhouses and holiday chalets have their saunas situated near the water. The purpose of the sauna is to accelerate the bloodstream by alternating heat and cold. First, heating is produced through a steam bath as hot as 80 to 100° C, with the additional evaporation of water being poured upon hot stones, and then rapid cooling is obtained by a plunge into the sea or a cold shower. This is a sure way to relax.
