Asserbo is situated directly by the North Sealand coast - not far from some of Denmark's best golf courses.
Asserbo is located between the tempting coast of the Kattegat and the lake of Arresø - Denmark's largest lake. You will find the beach only a few kilometres from the holiday house area. It is also possible to buy groceries within a few miles. If you wish to visit a town, Frederiksværk (about 6 km from Asserbo) offers an active business life with good specialist shops, numerous restaurants and many good offers for tourists.
Beach
The lovely, sandy beach of Liseleje, which is very suitable for children, is situated only 3 km from Asserbo. The seaside town Tisvildeleje (10 km from Asserbo) is also recommendable. Here you will find miles of white sandy beach. This beach is also suitable for children and has been awarded the Blue Flag. The beach of Rågeleje (20 km) is a long and lovely bathing beach with fine sand and small stones. This sheltered beach has the Blue Flag and during the school holidays, a lifeguard keeps an eye out for the bathers. The beach is situated along the esplanade and the road Strandvejen, and as it is facing north-west, it lies relatively unsheltered towards the Kattegat, for which reason wind and kite surfers will find good conditions here.
Nature
With its 40 square kilometres the lake Arresø (5 km from Asserbo) is the largest lake in Denmark. Here you will find good opportunities for walks and bicycle rides along the lake. The route around the lake is 50 km long. It is also possible to go on a cosy sail on the lake. The hills Tibirke Bakker (12 km) are a lovely and preserved nature area with heathery hills. From a viewpoint in the area you can enjoy the great view of the lake Arresø, the forest Gribskov and a bit of the Roskilde fjord. The forest Gribskov (19 km) is with its 5,000 hectares one of Denmark's largest forests. Here you will find a number of marked walking and bicycle routes as well as many scenic and historic places. By Gribskov you will also find the lake Esrum Sø, which is scenically surrounded by an untouched landscape with forests and meadows. Here you can swim, sail and observed birds in the bird sanctuary.
Activities
Anglers will find good opportunities for coastal fishing all along the coast of North Sealand. North Sealand also offers a number of golf courses - including one in Asserbo. Asserbo Golfklub is the oldest and one of the best golf courses in Denmark. It is situated in a lovely nature area by the hill Arrenakke Bakke. The course offers challenges for both beginners and experienced golf players. By Rågeleje (20 km) you will find the area Heatherhill. The steep slopes and the favourable wind conditions of the area make Heatherhill an ideal place for paragliders. The wind also creates good conditions for windsurfers.
Attractions
Visit the castle ruin Asserbo Slotsruin. The castle was built by monks in the 12th century. The castle was buried in sand and dug out by the king Frederik VII in the year 1849 (5 km). Helsinge is an active and cosy commercial town with many sights, museums, a pedestrian street, fountains, shops and restaurants (15 km). The amusement park Nordsjællands Sommerpark in Græsted is a cornucopia of amusements and activities for both children and adults. Among other things it offers a jungle path and a water world (23 km). Visit the old fishing town Gilleleje with the old quarter, the small fishing houses and the cosy, evocative harbour (28 km). At the museum Rudolf Tegners Museum by Dronningmølle the plaster and marble sculptures of the sculptor Tegner are exhibited (33 km).
Discoveries
In North Sealand you will find many interesting castles. The castle Frederiksborg Slot is with its towers and spires almost like something out of a fairy-tale (25 km).
The castle Fredensborg Slot is the summer residence of Queen Margrethe (32 km).
The castle Kronborg Slot is situated in Helsingør, by the gate of the strait of Øresund, (42 km).
Louisiana in Humlebæk is a museum for modern art. The unique museum buildings and the beautiful old park create interesting settings for the art (41 km).
The museum of Karen Blixen at the estate Rungstedlund has been established with galleries, exhibitions, the private living rooms of Karen Blixen, a slide department, a library and a café (43 km).
Visit the capital Copenhagen with sights like the Tivoli, a planetarium, the adventure centre Eksperimentarium, the art museum Carlsberg Glyptotek, the castle Rosenborg Slot with the crown jewels, København Zoo and much more (59 km).
