The cosy holiday area around Højby is situated in the bay of Sejrøbugten, south of the point called Sjællands Odde.

Beach and lovely nature with forest and preserved areas are available right outside your door in Højby. Sights and leisure activities for the whole family are available nearby. You will find grocery shops and a couple of restaurants in the village of Højby, which is situated 3 km inland behind the holiday house area. A few miles from Højby, there is the town of Nykøbing Sjælland, which offers a number of restaurants, good shopping possibilities as well as cultural experiences.

Beach
The beach Gudminderup Strand by Højby is a lovely, sandy bathing beach with low dunes. The beach is very suitable for children, as the water is shallow by the edge. Don't miss the scenic sunset over the water from the beach.

Nature
Beach, the forest Ellinge Skov and a large preserved nature area surround the holiday house area of Højby. The lake Højby Sø has been re-established on a 60 hectares large area with paths. Around the lake you will find a number of interesting plants. By the forest Ulkerup Skov og Overdrev (by Nykøbing Sj.) old house sites, fences and a village pond from a forest village are still visible. The area around the beach of Hønsinge Lyng is preserved, but can be visited. Lovely nature surroundings, plantations with pine trees as well as a hilly and varying landscape surround the area. The district is ideal for walks and bicycle trips. By Hovvig, east of Nykøbing, you can experience an interesting bird sanctuary.

Activities
In Nykøbing Sjælland you can bowl in the bowling alley of the town, which also offers entertainment for the youngest in the family. The area is rich in golf courses, and you can test the ones of Højby Golfbane, Odsherred Golfklub and Mensalgård Pay & Play-bane with 9 holes. Anglers will find good opportunities for a haul along the shore, in the canals of the fjord of Lammefjorden or on the sea onboard a fishing vessel, which sails out from Havnsø or Sjællands Odde. Furthermore, 3 Put & Take fishponds are available in the area.

Lumsås Mølle

The passage grave by Højby is one of the best preserved graves in the country. The passage grave has 2 chambers, is 4.5 metres high, has an external diameter of 26 metres and functioned as burial chamber for 98 people. The exhibition from the excavation can be seen at the nearby Stenstrup Museum (4 km). Nykøbing Sjælland is a cosy market town with a pedestrian street, various shops and pavement cafés and good, cultural offers (6 km). The amusement park of Sommerland Sjælland by Nykøbing offers more than 60 activities for the whole family, like a cosy canoe trip, a wild ride in the roller coaster or a visit to the largest water world in Seeland. Visit the mill Lumsås Mølle, which is a working mill museum, where the flour is still milled in the old-fashion way. Experience the impressive constructions, the beautiful interior, the white arms of the mill and buy flour to take home with you (7 km). Many craftsmen inhabit the area, which is rich in galleries, studios, workshops and exhibitions.

Discoveries
In the zoo Odsherreds Zoo Dyrepark by Asnæs you can experience 600 animals, divided on 100 species (19 km). Go on a ferry trip from Havnsø (32 km) to the island Sejerø, which has Denmark's mildest climate, a hilly landscape, many small bathing beaches as well as many passage graves and a monolith.
Lejre Forsøgscenter consists of 4 houses and 8 small workshops from the iron age. Here you can sail in dugout canoes, chop wood with an iron age axe and mill flour (56 km).
At the viking museum Vikingemuseet in Roskilde you can experience ships from the viking age, copies of viking ships as well as other Scandinavian commercial boats. The museum also has its own island and harbour (66 km).
