Mommark on the eastern coast of the island of Als is surrounded by beach, harbour, forest and cultural treasures.
The natural centre of Mommark is the idyllic and quiet harbour, which functions both as a fishing harbour and a marina. The atmosphere is quite unique here, and you can follow the activities from the benches on the spot. A grocery store and a restaurant are available here, and right next to the harbour you find the lovely and sheltered bathing beach of Monmark. The scenic forest areas, surrounding Mommark, the beach, the harbour as well as the many sights and leisure activities of the area make Mommark an attractive holiday destination for the whole family.
Beach
The beach of Mommark is situated right by the harbour. The wide and sandy beach with small stones invites swimming, sunbathing and playing in the sand. The water is calm and the beach is partially sheltered by a fence and growth towards the hinterland. About 7 km south of Mommark you will find the 5 km long, sandy beach by Skovmose, which is said to be one of the loveliest beaches on Als. The water is also very calm here, as the beach is sheltered by Funen, the island of Ærø and the German coastline.
Nature
Hills and valleys characterize the landscape on Als, and along the 165 km long coastline the nature is very versatile. Fjords and coves supersede cliffs and bathing beaches. Als has some of the most lovely forest areas in Denmark. Nørreskoven is the largest forest on the island and this 700 hectares large area is ideal for walks and bicycle trips. It is also possible to drive by car through the forest. You will find Northern Europe's largest collection of cromlechs in the forests of Blommeskobbel and Oleskobbel. The area of Dybbøl Banke contains 10 redoubts and is laid down as a national park.
Activities
Anglers will find ideal conditions here, as it is possible to fish from the shores, on the sea as well as in the Put & Take fishponds and streams of the area. Furthermore, deep-sea fishing trips with a genuine wooden fishing vessel are arranged from the harbour of Mommark. Als also offers two golf courses. The area contains many bicycle routes, which lead through the scenic landscape. It is also recommended to take a walk along the beach, through the meadows or in the forests.
Attractions
The 34 km long island offers a number of mills, castles, cromlechs and grave mounds. Experience for example the historic mill Dybbøl Mølle from the year 1744, the watermill Vibæk Mølle by the holy brook Vibæk, the castle of Sønderborg and the museum belonging to the castle, the castle of Nordborg from the year 1150 or the castle of Augustenborg, where you can join a guided tour.
